Duafe

This garment embodies the Adinkra symbol Duafe, which translates literally to “wooden comb.” More than a grooming tool, Duafe symbolizes beauty, femininity, and values such as patience, love, nurturing, and well-being. These qualities are reflected in both the design and construction of the piece.

The silhouette is a simple, short dress, accented with yarn embellishments above the bust and across the shoulders, adding texture and softness. Four knit panels were created for this look—two sleeves, and front and back bodice pieces—all knitted using the tubular jacquard technique. The front panel, however, was knitted in a 1x1 back-all structure to accommodate the complexity of the graphic design and the limitations of the available yarn carriers
